Please contact the Elections Office to help you determine the acceptable form of identification you can provide.

  • You will need to provide a residence address or specific geographic location from which your residence address may be determined. The residence address must be in the county in which you are registering.

Late and Election Day Registration

Montana is one of only a handful of states that allow late registration. Most states require a voter to register 30 days prior to an election to be eligible to vote. In Montana, one can register during that 29 day window until noon the day before an election.  This will save the voter time and supports the process. Late registration occurs at the Missoula County Elections Center at 140 N. Russell Street in Missoula.

Please note: By law, our office does not issue ballots is between 12 p.m. and 5 p.m. the day before any election. This is to ensure the registry of voters is up-to-date when delivered to polling places on Election Day.

Election Day voter registration is available from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day. Recent court decisions in October 2022 ensure Election Day registration will be available to Montanans. However, we expect longer than normal wait times on Election Day, so we recommend you register before Election Day if possible. Based on previous years, wait time to register to vote on Election Day could be up to two hours long. All voters in line by 8 p.m. on Election Day will be served.
