SEPTEMBER 9, 2025 - MUNICIPAL PRIMARY ELECTION
Our office administers municipal (city) elections on odd numbered years for the City of Missoula mayor, city council and municipal judges. The 2025 Municipal Primary Election will be held Tuesday, September 9.
Important Election Dates:
Tuesday, August 12 - Late Registration begins. Voters must appear in person at the Elections Office - Building B - to register to vote or make any changes to their voter registration.
Wednesday, August 20 - More than 47,000 municipal primary ballots will mail to active and provisionally registered voters residing in the City of Missoula. Each ballot will include a mayoral race, and those in Wards 2, 3 and 6 will also include a city council member race.
10 a.m. Tuesday, September 2 - Election equipment testing. Elections staff will test the tabulators used to count ballots to ensure they are working properly ahead of Election Day. They will also test the ADA-compliant ExpressVote ballot marking devices to ensure they are operating correctly for drop-off locations on Election Day. The public is invited and encouraged to attend the test.
Municipal Primary Candidate Filings on the Ballot
This will be a mail-only election. All active and provisionally registered voters who live in the City of Missoula will receive a ballot for the mayoral race. In addition, Wards 2, 3, and 6 will each have a city council member race. View the candidates who have filed for these races here. This is a reference document only. Questions regarding candidate platforms or initiatives must be directed to the candidate.
Wards 1, 4, and 5 will advance to the November 4 municipal general election. These filings are available online at http://missoula.co/candidatefiling.
