Grant opportunities offered by foundations, non-profits, organizations, and businesses are listed below. This is not an exhaustive list.


Arts Missoula

Arts Missoula Grants seeks to provide sustaining funds to assist individual Missoula County artists whose endeavors intersect with the general public. Arts Missoula believes that art is not only important, it is essential in enriching the community, culture, and in building and maintaining a vibrant economy.


City of Missoula – Neighborhood Energizer Grants

Neighborhood Energizer Grants support resident-initiated projects that improve our neighborhoods and the city as a whole. These projects will facilitate civic cooperation, neighbor engagement, and community building; create real physical improvements to benefit Missoulians; and engage in community planning or visioning, all at the neighborhood scale.


Community Health Alliance

Community Health Alliance’s Health Grants Program is another they work with their donors to advance healthy lives in western Montana. Their Health Grants Program provides focused support of health-related projects for nonprofit organizations and educational institutions.


Community Parks & Recreation Grants Program

The Missoula County Parks, Trails & Open Lands Program frequently partners with community groups and organizations to enhance County parks and other public recreation areas. In these partnerships, the Parks, Trails & Recreation Program provides planning assistance and funding. In turn, the partner organization matches 25% of total project funds through a combination of project expenses, in-kind donations and volunteer service hours.


Dennis and Phyllis Washington Foundation

The Dennis and Phyllis Washington Foundation funds direct service non-profit organizations to improve the quality of people’s lives by providing them with the tools they need to succeed. Since its inception in 1988, the Foundation has funded programs around Montana and in the areas in which the Washington Companies operate. Programs applying must be categorized in one of the following four areas of giving: education, health and human services, arts and culture, or community service.

Offers grants of up to $10,000 to nonprofit and tax-exempt organizations in the following categories: historic buildings and structures; historic cemeteries and sacred sites; collections and artifacts; oral histories; outreach and project development.


Headwaters Foundation

Headwaters Foundation provides General Operating (GO!) Grants up to $7,500 for nonprofit organizations in Western Montana’s rural communities working to promote health for children and families, with a short turnaround time and a simple application process.


Missoula Community Foundation

Small Grants

Annually offers small grants to area nonprofits that address the main focus areas of education, arts and culture, and community care. 

LoLa 

Offered by the Missoula Community Foundation. The LoLA (Legacy of Living Art) Fund supports projects that use the arts to nurture and support healing. LoLA grants are awarded yearly to artists and organizations that seek to engage creativity for the benefits of wellness and wellbeing. Proposed projects should have outcomes that provide opportunities for things such as creative expression, respite, social interaction, and enhancement of the human spirit.

Women’s Giving Circle

Offered by the Missoula Community Foundation. Each year, the grant focus is chosen by the Circle membership. This allows the membership to stay current with community needs and respond to emergent situations. 


Missoula Conservation District Grants

Missoula Conservation District offers the following types of grants designed to foster conservation of natural resources within Missoula County: conservation grants, education grants, and operations mini grants.


Missoula Downtown Association

The Arts and Culture Impact Grants utilize private resources to support the beautification, historical preservation, and general livability of Downtown Missoula. The Missoula Downtown Foundation supports placemaking projects that celebrate Downtown Missoula as the cultural center of our community.


Missoula Education Foundation

Every year, the Missoula Education Foundation awards teachers in MCPS funds to develop unique ideas and projects for their classrooms. These projects promote engagement, enhance the student experience, and provide vibrant learning opportunities. Applicants must be current Missoula County Public Schools pre-K–12 educators.


Missoula Tourism Business Improvement District Grant

The purpose of the Tourism Business Improvement District (TBID) Grant Fund is to provide funding to new and/or growing meetings/events that will provide economic impact through increased hotel room nights and other spending within the Missoula community.


Montana Arts Council – Strategic Investment Grants

Strategic Investment Grants (SIG) provide up to $1,000 for expenses related to opportunities for professional development, market expansion, and art events. SIG enables artists and teachers to advance their professional careers and supports nonprofit organizations in the advancement of arts-related programs.


Preserving Missoula County’s History Grants

This program is open to all Missoula County non-profit organizations involved in historic preservation and interpretation projects in Missoula County. Missoula voters made funding these grants possible when they approved the 2-mill levy for the Historical Museum in 2002.


Red Ants Pants Foundation

The Red Ants Pants Foundation awards grants for projects that support their mission pillar of enriching and promoting rural communities. Proposed projects should: Primarily serve rural areas in the state of Montana; demonstrate community support via financial or in-kind donations, matches, volunteers, partnerships, etc.; be spearheaded by competent individuals and/or organizations that demonstrate strong leadership capacity and the ability to leverage resources; demonstrate an impact on the quality of life through tangible effects on the local community. 


Seeley Lake Community Foundation Community Grants

The Seeley Lake Community Foundation helps local groups fund important community projects. In this capacity, the SLCF strives to be a community resource and catalyst for innovative approaches to improving the quality of life in Seeley Lake. The SLCF awards grants of up to $2,500 for projects to benefit the area of Seeley Lake. Applications are due January 31st each year, and grant awards are usually announced by early March. 


Trails Bond Program

The Trails Bond Program encourages applications for all types of trails – commuter, recreational, fitness, equestrian, ski trails, and more. Project sponsors are asked to demonstrate community support through partnerships and secured or pending project funding sources.
